OnePlus had entered the smartphone consumer market back in December 2013 and the company has had made quite a name for themselves with their feature rich smartphones rolled out in quite affordable prices. In a span of three years, OnePlus has rolled out five commercially successful smartphones and it looks like the company is striving to continue their good name with a sixth device just as the new year kicks off. The OnePlus 4 has been in the news a significant number of times owing to a huge array of speculations made regarding the smartphone and what it is slated to feature.
A 10nm Processor?
There is no doubt about the fact that OnePlus will surely target their next smartphone to compete with the flagships of the bigger tech firms like Apple and Samsung and for that, a ramp up in the processor field is an absolute must. The OnePlus 3T featured the Snapdragon 821 chipset from Qualcomm technologies succeeding the Snapdragon 820. Now the CES 2017 saw the coveted chipset manufacturer announce their latest 10nm processor, the Snapdragon 835 and OnePlus is surely pegged to incorporate this latest piece of technology in their upcoming device.

According to the Qualcomm, the new fabrication process makes the chipset up to 30 percent more efficient while offering performance improvement of 27 percent. The 14nm based Snapdragon 821 processor optimises battery use on Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. On a single charge, its 3,000mAh battery gives about 2 days of backup. The company claims that Snapdragon 835 will provide 40% more battery backup, which means higher battery backup irrespective of the size or density of the battery. A recent benchmark result leaked earlier this month has alleged that the 835 chipset has an octa-core design with a clock speed of 2.2GHz. The benchmark test also revealed the chipset will house an Adreno 540 GPU. The new Adreno 540 scored 30 percent faster than the current Adreno 530.
A More Powerful Battery?
The latest OnePlus 3T had already sported significant ramp ups from the OnePlus 3 in terms of battery life and capacity. And the OnePlus 4 is slated to take it up a notch further. Quite visibly, battery capacity has become quite a requisite with the latest applications and 4G network taking a huge toll on the battery capacity of the device and more and more companies are striving to manufacture devices with long-lasting battery life. OnePlus’s latest device sported a non-removable 3,400 mAh battery and the next device is slated to take it further up the scale. The OnePlus 4 is expected to surface in the market with a 4,000 mAh battery to cater to all the smartphone battery life requirements of consumers.
Further, should the Snapdragon 835 appear in the device, the OnePlus 4 will be anable to use Qualcomm’s Quickcharge 4.0 technology. One of the main highlights of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset is Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0 feature which is 20% faster and 30% more power efficient than Quick Charge 3.0. For a user, this means five hours of battery backup on five minutes of charge. Qualcomm says that the Quick Charge 4.0 can charge a fully drained battery up to 50% in just 15 minutes though specific USB Type-C based adapters.
