The new iPhone SE is here!
Yes, this happened! Apple introduced perhaps the most anticipated smartphone of the year – the second-generation iPhone SE. What is most paradoxical of all? – iPhone SE is not a flagship smartphone, stuffed with innovative technologies. iPhone SE is the cheapest smartphone from the Apple line, which everyone was waiting just because of the low price by the standards of the American brand.
“The first iPhone SE was a hit for many customers who liked its unique combination of small size, high performance, and affordable price. The second-generation iPhone SE is based on the same great idea that has become ever more sophisticated, which includes our world’s best single-camera system for great photos and videos while remaining very affordable,” said Senior Vice President Apple Marketing.”

What is the new iPhone SE, and how much does it cost? Let’s talk about the new product in detail.
Name is Simple and Clear
Apple has chosen for its new “budget” smartphone, the most concise name that was predicted by some insiders. Novelty called iPhone SE. Just iPhone SE, not iPhone SE 2 or iPhone SE 2020.
The name iPhone 9, which was used by many media as the anticipated name, was not used by the company. Most likely, we will never see this very iPhone 9, and in the model line of all Apple smartphones, there will remain a hole between the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, for some unknown reason created by the Apple company itself.
The new iPhone SE received a design similar to that of the iPhone 8. iPhone SE and iPhone 8 do not differ from each other when it comes to design. The iPhone SE has the same body shape with smooth rounded corners and edges, the same arrangement of all elements on the body, and the same most extensive frames around the screen.
Apple, in no way, refreshed the design of the new iPhone SE compared to the iPhone 8. For the SE line, however, this is not surprising. The original iPhone SE was a similar copy of the iPhone 5s in appearance, just like how the new iPhone SE repeats the same for the iPhone 8.
To get the whole idea of design, let’s go through the elements of the case. On the left side of the iPhone SE, there are volume buttons, and a sound mode switch – On the right side is the power button and the SIM card tray. At the bottom, there is a Lightning connector and two symmetrical grilles for speakers and a microphone.
The iPhone SE case is made of glass, the same as they used in the iPhone 8. Accordingly, the expectations from it are the same: it will get moderate scratches, and you will collect fingerprints on the case. But with the rubbing of the glass, there will not be any difficulties.
The main external difference between the iPhone SE and the iPhone 8 is the location of the Apple logo on the back of the case. The new iPhone SE has it in the middle of the back cover, similar to the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. For iPhone 8, the logo is located closer to the upper edge, as on all the other Apple smartphones except iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. The new iPhone SE came in three colors: black, white, and red.
Display – Hello from the Past
The new iPhone SE has a 4.7-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 750 × 1334 pixels (326 PPI) and an aspect ratio of 16: 9. The maximum screen brightness is 625 cd / m². The display covers the tempered glass with a high-quality oleophobic coating.
The iPhone SE screen supports P3’s wide color range and True Tone technology, which uses a set of sensors to adjust the colors and brightness of the screen to suit the ambient light. Thanks to True Tone technology, the image on the iPhone screen looks more natural.
For the first time, True Tone technology was implemented by Apple exactly in the iPhone 8, an improved version of which is now in the new iPhone SE. The display of the iPhone SE (2020) does not differ from iPhone 8 in terms of frames around the perimeter. They are wide and noticeable, especially the upper and lower. Apple did not even slightly reduce the screen frame to somehow refresh the design of the front surface of the new iPhone SE. As a result, the front of the iPhone SE is no different from the iPhone 8.
Specifications – This is power!
The main improvement of the iPhone SE 2020 compared to the iPhone 8 is related to performance. At the heart of the new Apple, the smartphone is the flagship processor A13 Bionic. The same is responsible for the performance of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
The A13 Bionic is the most powerful mobile processor in the world, even compared to models released as early as 2020 for the flagship Android smartphones.
In the Geekbench 5 benchmark, the processor scores 1328 points in single-threaded mode and 3416 points in multi-threaded mode.
For comparison, the closest pursuer of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor in the expensive flagship Samsung Galaxy S20, scores 833 and 3099 points in similar tests.
Thanks to the A13 processor, the new iPhone SE is on the list of the most powerful smartphones in the world, ahead of all Android smartphones. In this regard, it is not a surprise that Apple made a bet on iPhone SE on performance. The company emphasized that the smartphone is perfect for any current tasks of modern users and also for the gamers, including from the Apple Arcade game service.
A13 Bionic was designed with machine learning in mind. The 8-core Neural Engine is capable of processing up to 5 trillion operations per second. Besides, the central processor is equipped with two machine learning accelerators, and the new machine learning controller provides the necessary balance of productivity and efficiency. The coordinated work of A13 Bionic and iOS 13 allows you to create new applications that use the intellectual capabilities of machine learning and the Core ML system.
The A13 Bionic is designed to work efficiently and save battery on the iPhone SE. iPhone SE supports wireless charging using Qi devices, as well as the ability to charge up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes quickly. 2 Thanks to the support of Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit Class LTE standards, the downloading of content occurs at lightning speed. 3 And the support of two SIM cards, regular and eSIM, is convenient for traveling abroad or business communication. 4
The amount of RAM iPhone SE has not yet been officially announced – Apple usually does not share these characteristics. According to insiders, the new iPhone SE received 3 GB of RAM compared to 2 GB of RAM for the iPhone 8. The increased RAM will provide the device with the necessary acceleration when working with applications left in the background and add speed when processing photos and videos.
The new iPhone SE came in three configurations: 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB of internal memory.

Camera – Apple has it all
The second most significant improvement to the iPhone SE 2020 is related to the camera. The smartphone is equipped with a single 12-megapixel camera, precisely the same as the iPhone XR. The lens aperture is f / 1.8, the pixel size is 1.4µ, and the focal length is 26 mm. There is support for optical image stabilization and an improved image processor compared to the iPhone 8.
iPhone SE allows the A13 Bionic processor to use even more digital shooting options, including the Portrait mode with six options for portrait lighting and depth of field settings. Also, the iPhone SE uses machine learning capabilities and can assess the depth of field using the monocular system so that you can shoot great portraits with the front camera. The next-generation Smart HDR on the iPhone SE recognizes objects in the frame and provides the right backlight for expressively alternating light and dark areas.
The camera of the new iPhone SE allows you to shoot 4K video at up to 60 frames per second and 1080p video at up to 240 frames per second. Implemented support for shooting in HDR format, including recording stereo sound.
Thanks to the advanced features of the Camera and Photo apps in iOS 13, the built-in editing capabilities are even wider and more intuitive. Previously, such powerful editing tools were only available for processing photos.
The resolution of the front camera iPhone SE 2020 is 7 megapixels (f / 2.2).
Price iPhone SE (2020) – Cheapest iPhone
And finally, the main thing – the price. The cost of iPhone SE is as follows:
- iPhone SE 2020 64 GB – $399
- iPhone SE 2020 128 GB – $449
- iPhone SE 2020 256 GB – $549
The smartphone has become the cheapest of the current line of iPhone. The price of the iPhone SE 2020 is lower even compared to the iPhone 8, which, after the release of the new product, ceased to be officially sold on the official Apple website.
