Legacy AI
LegacyAI is a ChatGPT (Generative Pre-training Transformer) client designed specifically for older Mac OS systems. It serves as an AI-powered personal assistant, allowing users to converse with OpenAI’s ChatGPT directly from their desktop. With support for Mac OS 9 – 10.6.8, LegacyAI caters to users of older Macintosh computers.
This tool offers users the flexibility to choose AI models based on their specific requirements and even provides the option to set proxy servers if needed. LegacyAI also allows users to save conversations for future reference, change AI models to adapt to their needs, and fully customize preferences according to their preferences.
While LegacyAI is free to use, API access is dependent on donations. Hosting the server and utilizing OpenAI’s API incurs running costs, so users who are able to contribute can do so through a provided link. It is important to note that LegacyAI does not transmit information over HTTPS, as Mac OS 9 predates the standardization of HTTPS on the internet. Consequently, transmissions made using LegacyAI on older Macintosh computers are not secure, and it is advised not to use the tool for sensitive matters.
LegacyAI requires a Macintosh computer running Mac OS 9 – 10.6.8, preferably with a G3 processor, at least 16mb RAM, and 1mb disk space. The tool was developed by Manticore Software, a software development agency based in New Zealand, under the guidance of its founder, Jordan Trbuhovic.
